 WHAT IS THE IPL?        

The Indian Premier League(IPL) is the recently launched cricket league by the BCCI(Board of Control for Cricket in India) backed by the ICC.It will follow the 20-20 format and the league comprises of 8 teams(8 cities in India).The IPL is said to be a challenge to the ICL which was launched in 2007.IPL will start on April 18 and end on June 1.COMPLETE SCHEDULE

WHO WILL PLAY IN IT?

The auctions for the teams was held earlier this year.The teams are:
Chennai-India Cements
Delhi-GMR Constructions
Kolkatta-Shahrukh Khan
Mohali-Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta
Hyderabad-Deccan Chronicle
Bangalore-UB Group
Mumbai-Mukesh Ambani
Jaipur-Emerging Media

THE FORMAT OF THE LEAGUE

Each team will have a squad of 16 players.Each team can have up to 8 international players,but only 4 at a time on the field.The 5 "icon players"(Ganguly,Tendulkar,Sehwag,Dravid and Yuvraj) will play for their respective cities.The bidding for the players is taking place in Mumbai on the 20th of February.All players will sign a three year contract with the teams.Each team will play on a home and away basis.
