The IPL has been launched with a lot of fanfare and glitz. The money involved in it too is just amazing. It is already being called the League of Billions. But,will it be a success. We all know what happened to the ICL.
The tournament could have been given more time.59 matches are going to held over 44 days. The team cannot gel as a unit in just a short time.Probably, they're just going to come out and try to smack the ball(That's what they call as T20 entertainment!!!!)
The idea is innovative. Its along the lines of the EPL(English Premier League). But,there were many anomalies in the auction held recently.Could you believe Ricky Ponting was sold at a price lesser than that of even Ishant Sharma and Robin Uthappa. That was just silly.Mahendra Singh Dhoni was just too overpriced.I dont think he is of much value as 1.5 million$.
After the auctions, the Chennai Super Kings look the strongest.I feel people wouldn't have as much passion suppporting their home clubs as they would be supporting their country.
Nevertheless, the IPL is going to be a revolution of sorts in Indian cricket and world cricket.A change was necessary from the monotonous Test and ODIs.
